SAGE
is a member of the mint family and is enjoyed fresh, dried or as a tea. It is savory, as opposed to sweet, and has a slightly peppery flavor that is favored by Italian cooks who view it as essential.
Speaking of essential, distilled sage oil is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and has been used for the treatment of many health issues.
The plant is a hardy perennial that is easy to grow when it gets full sun and sufficient water as a young plant. The sage plant has pretty gray green leaves that work as a border anywhere, and the spikes of the spring flowers come in purple, white, pink and blue and are stunning. Plants grow between a foot or two usually. Plant near rosemary, carrots and cabbage but KEEP away from cucumbers! Prune the heavier woody stems every spring.
